The futurists use a cubist style, but they use it for the sake of a political message. Between 1909 and 1914, Italian artists and poets formed the Futurists, and published manifestos outlining their beliefs. Filippo Tomasso Marinetti was the leader of this movement. Futurists focus on the beauty of violence, technology, and speed – even going so far as to say a roaring motor is more beautiful than the Winged Victory of Samothrace. They’re responding to the challenges of the overwhelming amount of artwork in the world, feeling them selves burdened by the legacy of Italian art. They want to burn the museums and the libraries.
Futurism wasn’t so attractive after World War I, but the rhetoric was swallowed by Facism in the 1930s due to its intolerant language.
